Using Satellite Images for OSM Tracing

Hi!
will it be allowed to use the satellite imagery you plan to publish, for OpenStreetMap tracing?

    We do allow OpenStreetMap contributors to trace, however, a paid MapBox account is currently required. Our TOS now states:

    The “Satellite” layer may be used to produce derivative data for the OpenStreetMap project. All other use for derivative data is prohibited.

    We hope to communicate about this more and open up a better channel for the OpenStreetMap community soon. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Hi Will,

    I would like to use it in the JOSM editor. A paid MapBox account is not
    an option I think.

    In addition it would be greadt to get an offline dump of the data (for
    the sole purpose of tracing) because we a struggling with very bad
    Internet connectivity here in Ethiopia.

    please make the josm layer happen - it is the sole reason i subscribed (to be able to trace data for osm). ty. jose

    Hi there,
    For now, a paid account is required. You can presently add the layer to JOSM for tracing purposes.

    i subscribed to the basic plan - can see the satellite map in browser but no idea how to get it into josm.

    ok, figured out the correct tms url so now i can see the layer in josm. please close.

    Hi!

    it would still be nice if this would also be possible without an payed MapBox account. OSM volunteers should not need to pay for doing their work.

    Also I would like to ask if this also applies to the DigitalGlobe images to be released in the future - can they also be trace?

    Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear it's working in JOSM. We're working on a better solution for OSM tracing, which we hope to communicate about soon.
