Interactivity on hidden features

I have an interactivity layer that is created from a geojson file. I've styled these points as ShieldSymbolizers and they are displaying as expected.

The issue I have is that the text layer beneath this layer is affecting the placement of these shields. This means that the interactivity returns hits for shields that are not actually rendered.

What I would like to happen is that the map does not render the shields (as is now) as well as not returning the shield as part of the interactivity grid.json.

Any thoughts?

    This is going to be an upstream mapnik issue, and will likely require some screenshots and testcases to get clear on what is happening. For example are you using svg for the shields and scaling them at all?

    So, ideally create a ticket at trac.mapnik.org. I'm going to close this one....
