Carto ID from SHP file

Hi,

I have a beginner question: I have a shp file, and when I want to add a layer, the dialog asks for a Carto ID. But how do I find this ID, what does it represent exactly? I can open this shapefile in QGIS for instance, and I can see property and feature lists, but selecting one of those features in TileMill in the 'add layer' dialog will result in the error message: Error: No projection found for layer "Naam" at ....

    never mind... it appeared that the shapefile was corrupt... using QGIS and re-saving it resolved the issue. Thanks anyway!
