TileMill crashes on mapping 100k points

I need to map a hundred thousand points on the area of a large city. The points represent a value (wealth) and are styled as circles of different size and colours. Often, while browsing the map or changing the zoom level TileMill crashes. Every single time i try to export my map as an MBtile, I witness tilemill swallowing up most of my 4GB of ram and dieing even before starting to write a single tile.

Is this a nodejs or a tilemill issue? How can I help debugging this?

Happy Holidays

    Hi there,
Thanks for reporting the issue. What is the format of the datasource that's providing the 100k points?

    Thanks,
    Will

    Hi Will,

my pleasure to make TileMill even better. The source I'm using is a CSV file, with lat, lon and value_to_map. I guess I could learn SpatiaLite if necessary, but it would be anyhow useful to know why it doesn't work.

    Best to you

Edit: Santa brought me good will. Acquired knowledge of Spatialite, I can confirm this is a CSV input issue. Everything works nominally with Sqlite. Happy Holidays!

Great to hear! Yep, CSV support is definitely not geared towards high numbers of points, whereas Spatialite, Shapefiles, and PostGIS should all be quite zippy.
